Trope    |    2016

Produced at CalArts during 2016, TROPE was CalArts 4th publication out of the graphic design program. Focused on the issues of tropes throughout graphic design history and their effects within culture today. The tropes ranged from quirky geometric typography to occult symbols. The publication was split up into two parts, research  and creating content for each individual section, as well as designing the front end of the publication.

My focus during this publication was on quirky geometric typography, analyzing the use of abstracted typography as a easy way to bring a design voice to pieces. That helped focus in on the idea of inspiration can sometimes be a form of  culture appropriation. Along with that I examined the idea manifesting quirky typography in digital and analogue means, which led me in to form based research.
